Ski Rent, Seefeld |
If you have decided to rent ski equipment and you are travelling on a ski holiday package, you will often be advised to book your equipment before you leave. There are advantages and disadvantages with prebooking your ski equipment rental.
The advantages are that the cost is already paid for by the time you arrive, and that you may be given a special time to arrive at the ski hire shop when travel company guests are fitted out by staff. The disadvantage is that you are then tied to one ski rental shop, without knowing if it is the best for your needs, location, or level of skiing.
Whichever you choose, make sure that you arrive at the ski hire shop as soon as possible after your arrival. Queues for fitting often form on the Sunday morning and getting on the slopes can be a major frustration if ski school time is starting soon.
Ensure that you have a pair of the socks with you that you plan to use when skiing, so that the boots fit properly. Even if the bootfitter is rushed, try to take the time to feel if the boot is fitting snugly, but not too tightly, and that your foot cannot move about inside the boot.
Make sure that the ski rental staff ask your weight and your ability when setting the release weight of the bindings and be prepared to give your weight in kilograms. Be guided by their advice on the length of skis - ski sizing has changed a tremendous amount in recent years, and a well-meaning friend in your party may be giving you advice which is now out of date.
Be prepared to give a deposit in the form of a blank credit card receipt. This will normally be used to pay the rental bill at the end of your stay. Some ski hire shops may offer optional or compulsory "insurance" on top of normal rental - this will normally cover the expensive replacement of skis lost, badly damaged or stolen during the vacation - a bill that is often not met entirely by normal holiday insurance.
