Cross-country skiing in Seefeld - or "langlauf" as it is known in German - is just as important as downhill skiing in the winter months.
Hundreds of kilometres of prepared tracks span the villages of the plateau, each carefully prepared by special machinery and experts.
The Seefeld plateau twice hosted the Nordic events of the Winter Olympics and it is still as proud of its facilities for nordic skiing.
Seefeld has well-marked trail network with a mixture of classic and skating routes.
Seefeld has its own cross-country ski school and trails lead off to Mösern from outside the ski school offices near the Olympia Sports Centre. Other popular routes in Seefeld are the easy trails near the Wildsee and the more difficult climbs up to the Wildmoos area.
Leutasch is the heart of the cross-country skiing on the plateau. The hamlets of Leutasch are linked by an intricate network of trails.
Try the loop into the Gaistal for spectacular alpine winter views or in the other direction towards Mittenwald for some gorgeous village scenery in an unspoilt valley.
Scharnitz takes the concept of cross-country skiing seriously - you can ski across the border from one country to another!
The trails through to Mittenwald make an attractive excursion, while the classic trail heads off in the other direction towards Seefeld.
As well as the established trails to Seefeld, Mösern has some tougher routes heading out towards the Wildmoos golf course in the direction of Leutasch and the Wildmoosalm.
Reith has a nice loop heading out towards Seefeld.
